Joelle Provost

Joelle Provost

Joelle Provost is a low impact painter, climate optimist and animal welfare advocate based out of Richmond, CA. Provost paints scenes of living in the era of the Anthropocene. In her recent works, Provost searches for the tone of our distinct present, keeping in mind our environmental crisis in hopes to find that which is still sacred. In her process she holds these truths: collapse of an old world and regeneration of a new, in order to gently encourage the viewer to imagine new narratives. In all cases, her intent is to inspire the viewers to act in defense of the natural environment, adopting principles of biomimicry.

Her recent works are made from home in her studio next to her urban homestead where she is building a long term certified wildlife habitat. Just last year she hosted a Regenerative Gala as an effort to celebrate collective movement towards earth restoration. Her works have been featured in the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago, Good Mother Gallery in Oakland, ROOM art gallery in Mill Valley, & Spacewomb Gallery in Manhattan. She holds an MFA in Art and Integrated Media from Brooklyn College.

Sean Carney

Sean Carney

Sean Carney has been honing his skills for several years at different Bay Area stone carving studios and at his home studio in West Oakland. With a passion for ornate carving, as well as an appreciation for allowing the simple beauty of stone to reveal itself, he enjoys meditating on the history inherent in each stone and takes comfort in the sustainability of the materials.  Being also a musician, photographer and visual artist, he finds himself strangely inclined to working with his hands, eyes and ears to attempt to trace the contours of things that shape and constrain us.

Sean recently fabricated a 14ft limestone table with carved intersecting phases of the moon. It's currently on display as part of Annie Albaglia's MILK TEETH exhibit at the David Ireland House, aka 500 Capp St Gallery, in San Francisco.

Tess Felix

Tess Felix

Tess Felix transforms plastic debris into vibrant portraits that tell a story of oceans in peril. In a recent series entitled, “Ocean Eco Heroes,” Felix portrays activists whose work is aimed at stemming the tide of plastic waste generation. She depicts Beth Terry, an author and activist whose books and blogs promote plastic-free living and solutions for reducing our plastic footprint. In her portrait of Manuel Maqueda,” she depicts an activist who has founded organizations to combat plastic pollution and developed an online media project, entitled “El Plastico Mata,” to educate the public about the plastics crisis. She builds up her compositions piece by piece over long periods of time, a fitting process to highlight the daily destruction of our marine environment by a steady stream of plastic bottles, baubles, odds and ends.
